Almost a century of history in these aisles
A municipal food market opened in 1931, in a historic building between Juntas Generales and Karranzairu streets, right in the centre of Barakaldo.
Almost a century of history breathes through the aisles of Barakaldo Municipal Market. It was born in the 1920s, when the town was growing relentlessly and the old market could no longer hold every stall that wanted a place within its walls. And so, in the heart of the new Barakaldo, next to the Town Hall and a step from the metro, a building went up that was destined to become something more than a place to shop: a meeting point for generations of neighbours and traders.
«Shopping has a different rhythm here: closeness, trust and the personal attention that only generations of experience can give.»
Its façades, decorated with ceramics that still catch the eye of anyone walking past, have been silent witnesses to a town in constant change. Inside, among voices, colours and the smell of fresh produce, a way of shopping has flourished for decades: one built on trust, closeness and personal service, the kind of understanding that only time creates and that remains the hallmark of this market today.
